Research Toolkits and Trainings

Stacked White Books

RESOLVE’s research toolkits and trainings for researcher and non-researcher audiences seek to provide participants with instructive resources, tools, and avenues for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices for those conducting and using research to address violent extremism. RESOLVE facilitates two separate toolkits and trainings:

  • Researcher Toolkit and Training:  Resources and training for researcher audiences seeking to improve the methodological rigor, ethical safeguards, and suitability of their VE research for policymaker and practitioner audiences.
  • Non-researcher Toolkit and Training: Resources and training for non-researcher audiences (policymakers, practitioners, and civil society organizations) seeking to augment their understanding of research processes, implications, and relationships in utilizing research to craft more effective, informed P/CVE interventions.

The trainings are supplemented by RESOLVE’s forthcoming Edited Volume, the Researching Violent Extremism Series, which details personal researcher experiences and recommendations from a broad global scale.

Researcher Toolkit and Training

The RESOLVE Toolkit and Training for Researchers seeks to provide individuals, institutions, and organizations with resources and guidance on conceptualizing, designing, and undertaking research focused on violent extremism and terrorist dynamics. Informed by the input and experience of experts in the field, the toolkit provides insight and recommendations on conceptual, methodological, ethical, and security challenges that researchers commonly face. The toolkit and training also provide insights and guidance on crafting research recommendations for policy and practitioner audiences and incorporate lessons learned from researching violent extremism, both broadly and within specific regional contexts.

Non-researcher Toolkit and Training

The RESOLVE Toolkit and Training for Non-Researchers seeks to provide policymakers, practitioners, and other non-researcher audiences with a deeper understanding of research and data collection methods, ethics, and security to expand their appreciation of the contributions of research on policymaking and practice. The research literacy training facilitates the development of evidence-based policy through better understanding the purpose and limitations of research, implications of certain methodologies or research practices on the applicability of research findings, best practices for commissioning research, and research ethics, to promote more empirically-based P/CVE policy and practice.
